Psoriasis is a skin disease that causes skin cells to multiply faster than the normal rate. This makes the skin build up into red patches covered with white scales. They can grow anywhere, but it mostly appears on the scalp, elbows, knees, and lower back. Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease that appears as frequent attacks.
Psoriasis types
Many symptoms of Psoriasis can be visible according to the type that the person has. Below are some of the common symptoms of the most common form of Psoriasis, which is Plaque Psoriasis:
- • Plaques of red skin, often covered with white-colored scales. These plaques could be itchy and painful, and they sometimes crack and bleed. In severe cases, the plaques will grow and merge, covering large areas of skin.
- • Disorders of the nails, including discoloration and pitting of the nails. The nails may also crumble or detach from the nail bed.
- • Scales on the scalp
Unfortunately,Psoriasis is incurable. However, it responds well to many topical and systemic treatments, even people with severe psoriasis. To book your consultation with our Dermatologist Dr. Samah, call 043498000 or visit www.iamc.ae/dr-samah
